Library Renovation FAQ

  • WILL YOU BE CLOSED DURING RENOVATION?  Library operations have moved to a temporary location at the Polson United Methodist Church at 301 16th Avenue East.  We are able to offer most library services during our renovation project and we are open our regular hours.
  • WHEN WILL IT START AND HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE?  Pending permits, the estimated start of demolition followed by construction is April 2023 and completion is by the end of 2023.
  • CAN I STILL GET PARTNER ITEMS ON HOLD?  Yes, and this will be the preferred method for getting books. We will still send and receive crates from our nearly 40 Partner libraries throughout this process. Please let us know if you are not comfortable placing items on hold for yourself.
  • WILL ALL OF THE STAFF STAY ON DURING RENOVATION? WHAT WILL YOU DO?  We have no plans to lay-off any of the staff.  Since the library will continue to operate – just in a smaller capacity and different location – we will still have normal operations and job functions to perform.
  • WILL CHILDREN’S PROGRAMMING CONTINUE? Yes!  Mother Goose and Story Time will continue throughout the renovation – as will our Summer Reading Program.  We will try to offer special programs as opportunities arise, but we definitely will continue our regular programs.
  • WILL YOU HAVE ADULT PROGRAMS?  Virtual program for sure and we will try to do some in-person as well.  If we do, they will likely be more hands-on programs rather than presenter style.  It all depends on the space we have to operate in.  Of course, adults are encouraged to also participate in our Summer Reading Program, so be sure to watch for details in May/June.
  • DO SOME BOOKS REALLY HAVE AN OCTOBER 2ND DUE DATE?  Yes!  All of our 28-day books now have extended due dates to October 2, 2023 (and will be extended until renovation is complete).
  • WILL YOU HAVE MEETING ROOM SPACE IN YOUR TEMPORARY LOCATION? No, we will not have meeting space available during our renovation.
  • WHERE WILL YOUR REGULAR LIBRARY TRUSTEE BOARD MEETINGS TAKE PLACE?  Our meetings will be held at our temporary location at 301 16th Avenue East.
  • WHAT ABOUT AN OUTSIDE BOOKDROP?  Unfortunately, we do not have a good option for a temporary outside book drop. We are fine free though, so books, movies, magazines and audiobooks don’t accrue fines if turned in late.  If you can’t make it to our temporary location during our open hours, just give us a call and we’ll see what we can do for you.  You can also return any of our items to our Partner libraries.
